Alpha Overdrive: The Quad

Alpha Overdrive

Brewery: Valiant
IBU: 220
ABV: 14.3%

Valiant’s Alpha Overdrive is I think I would say Alpha Drive’s bigger, stockier, younger brother. Don’t let this description fool you this boy can handle himself, and when his big brother starts fights little brother will finish them.

Shaolin Fist, Will Get You in the Kisser

Shaolin Fist

Monkish Brewing Co.

Shaolin Fist

ABV: 7.0%

On a recent Beer Crawl, I had the opportunity to taste Monkish Breweries line up. I was not disappointed for the most part, and the one that stood above all the rest was Shoalin Fist. It is brewed as a Belgian Style Saison with a kick. It is brewed with Sichuan peppercorns and gives it a spice that was very nice. What I expected to be another brewery’s attempt to do another “refreshing” pepper beer turned out to be the kick in the mouth I needed to get me revamped for spicy beer.

MediaBrewPub Watches Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Captain America: The Winter Soldier promotional poster from SDCC 2013.

We can’t stop talking about the new Captain America: The Winter Soldier and we’ve had universal praise for the new movie.

Jun our resident movie expert opens up the discussion giving some very high praise:
Exhilarating. Mature. Morally complex. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is, hands down, the best entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet. Combining bone-crunching action with astute (and relevant to boot) political thrill, the film establishes its titular superhero as the most sympathetic character in its universe thus far, while also making its heroes incredibly vulnerable to defeat and failure. It hardly takes a wrong step, too; the humor is spot-on and never excessive, the cast is terrific all around, and the way it builds its world is first-rate. The effects of its story alter the MCU’s very landscape, from the films – past, present, and future – to the ongoing television series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Did you hear that, DC? That was the sound of Marvel throwing down the gauntlet.

Pliny the Younger, Worth the Wait

Russian River, Pliny the Younger (2014)

Style: Triple IPA

ABV: 10.25%

OG:1.088

When there is hype there are always vaunted expectations. For Russian River’s Pliny, the Younger,  there is a mystique surrounding it and its limited release helps fuel this. This leads to long lines and at times disappointment as some of my friends were the victims to being turned away and rejected as they made it to the front of the line and found out the tap runneth dry. When the opportunity arose that guaranteed a taste I took it, partially to lord it over them but mainly because I wanted to know why the hype. Continue reading
