Stone Brewery,
Go To IPA
Style: Session IPA
IBU: 65ABV: 4.5%
Stone Brewing Company, a brewery that has a lust for hops and hoppy beers released Go To IPA. Stone has crafted an IPA for an everyday experience instead of their heavier Arrogant Bastard, Stone IPA and their Stouts. Go To IPA is Stone’s answer for a daily beer that won’t leave you inebriated when you go back to work.
Go To IPA was a beer that I sought out, because I was intrigued to see if Stone could produce a beer that had a low ABV while still keeping to their reputation of solid hops. Unfortunately, this was not the case. When inspecting the aroma, there were floral hints with definite promises of hops, but that was the most impressive aspect of this beer. Taste was lacking there was very little to no hops in the flavor from the first quaff you find this beer lacking. Stone brewery promises an “extreme of flavors and aroma” but the flavor is pretty one dimensional and nothing special. The feel of the beer is much of what you would expect from a beer with an ABV of 4.5% not particularly smooth but easier to drink than a true IPA.
I actively looked for this beer to see if Stone had the potential of making a session IPA. I saw Stone’s passion for hops as a positive for this session IPA. Unfortunately, I would say that this was not a successful attempt at a session IPA. For a more satisfying beer I would suggest having a Pabst, at least you know what you are getting.
